GLASS ACT
2022-ongoing

Glass Act is an interdisiplinary project about the Latvian National Library.
Begining as a single poem, Glass Act was poem written in a broken pantoum form about the Latvian National Library and how it is a representation of the Glass Mountain -- a national symbol of hope for Latvian people, according to architect Gunnar Birkerts. The poem refers to Birkerts’ literary inspirations for his design, including the literature of Aspazija, a cannonical woman in Latvian literary history that was left out of Birkerts’ narrative. Nine more poems were written and included in my architectural historical thesis entitled “Nostolgic Myth and The Latvian National Library”. Skylight, another poem in the collection, was published in Avīzes Nosaukums in 2022.

Music for Glass Act was commissioned by Cameron Wilson, which can be listened to here. In April of 2024, Cameron and I performed this song in a set of five spoken world electro ambient pieces at 27th Letter Books in Detroit, Michigan.

The thesis-length research for this project was awarded the Henry P. Tappan Award for Interdisciplinary Studies, High Honors, and two research-travel grants from the University of Michigan.
